Toryumon (Ukiyoe)

Koi turns into a dragon when it reaches the top of a waterfall. This is a ukiyoe showing the koi's determination to overcome anything that may come against him in the process no matter how cruel the reality is. This unsightly koi is injured by the harsh current of the waterfall. The wound on his forehead is the shape of Japan upside-down, depicting the way the country is today.
